Dear Douglas Democrats,
As the County Convention Platform Chair I would like to invite you to submit your ideas for platform planks for the up coming Douglas County Democratic Party Convention. We will be organizing and publishing your submissions for adoption at the county convention on April 24th.
This is an important off year election because who gets elected to the Governorship will have much to do with subsequent reapportionment when the 2010 census results are received. Reapportionment, as you know, has been brazenly abused in the past several decades and it is important that we have a strong turn out and elect the Democratic candidate for the governorship. With the population increase in Nevada over the past decade we may gain another Congressional seat.
CLICK HERE to see the platform planks from 2008 are available on the DCDCC website in pdf format. We will use those as the basic template and add new ideas and remove those that have been addressed or otherwise lost pertinence.
The platform planks are our grass roots voice emphasizing the issues that we feel must be addressed by the state and national Democratic Parties in their final platforms. We, at the county level, are the WE THE PEOPLE speaking through the Constitution of the United States of America. It is incumbent upon us to take our duties regarding the party platform and the off year election seriously.
All submissions will be included in the platform draft which will be on the website the week before the convention and will also be printed for perusal at the convention. The Platform Committee will condense ideas, remove redundancies and submit a final group of planks for discussion and approval during the convention proceedings. The final draft will be voted on by the convention attendees.
I strongly encourage your participation in this important civic exercise. You can submit your ideas via email to Christopher Lunn. Please try and have them in by Friday April 9th which will allow us time to organize them and put them on the website in pdf format by Wednesday April 14th.
In Patriotic Unity,
Christopher Lunn
