Members can collect food, other items for two Nevada soldiers

The Douglas County Democratic Central Committee has adopted two members of the 1864 Nevada National Guard, currently attached to the AZ 1404 Transportation Company in Kuwait. They travel all over Iraq transporting goods in military convoys.
The soldiers are SSG Henry Edwin and SPC Victor Torres, both with the 2nd Platoon — also known as the “Dirty Deuce.” The Dems have already sent goody packages to the Guardsmen through the Web of Support program, according to DCDCC Chair Nancy Epstein.
“I've been assured they have received the three packages we have sent and are mostly out in the field, with little time for contact outside of their family,” she said.
All sorts of food and personal items can be sent to soldiers in the field, according to the Web of Support website, from Ramen noodles to candy, shampoo to board games, and CDs to disposable cameras. CLICK HERE to see the Web of Support Fact Sheet and CLICK HERE for the Supply List.
The Central Committee’s “adopted” Guardsmen will come home in April, so the cut-off date for the last package is February 13. Members who want to participate in the project can call Nancy at 267-5107. Other Nevada troops are being deployed, as well.
After Web of Support founder PJ DeGross was a speaker at a DCDCC meeting, the Central Committee was inspired to adopt the Nevada National Guardsmen. “No soldier should ever be forgotten, and we need to do what we can to support them,” Nancy said. |
